STATEMENT FROM THE APA
Who’s Against Policing Carrier Fraud?
The APA will remove anyone from membership if they are found to violate our ethical pledge. The APA will continue to honor this policy. The APA invites insurers to do the same in relation to the TPA’s, adjusting & Engineering firms they hire. They have refused.
Why do insurance carriers not have the same policy to ban those who have committed insurer fraud?
There are two reasons:
1) They believe they are immune and
2) Its Profitable
Carriers and the firms they hire who traffic in forged causation reports think they are immune from criminal conduct. They are largely correct. The APA is the only organization in the country that concentrates on these crimes. We invite, and assist, public prosecutors to join us in this effort. While fraud occurs on all sides of the claims process, criminal cases publicly prosecuted against the insurance industry are all but non existent.
There are members of the insurance industry, fraud fighting community, and prominent defense counsel that have applauded the APA’s mission to police the carrier side against fraud. Professionals on all sides know than an ethical system is the only system that is sustainable. Ethical players are not afraid of legal action because they dont traffic in fraud.
Who could possibly be against policing criminal carrier-side fraud?
Those who profit from it
